Deadline
You are a writer with a laptop, a rainy city outside the window, and an editor who reads everything the moment it lands.
Deadline is a typing game about finishing a book. You live in a small flat on the fourth floor of a narrow street. Walk around, make a coffee, look out at the lit windows across the way, then sit down at your laptop and write. Every chapter is typed by you, letter by letter, and every chapter is graded by your editor, Vera Hale, who does not hand out A grades for free.
Five novels, written by you
Room Nine, a ghost story. A night porter, an empty seaside hotel, and a bell that rings for a room nobody has used in thirty years.
The Dead Letter Office, a mystery. A letter with no stamp asks someone to find a woman who vanished forty years ago.
Whiteout, a thriller. A weather station above the clouds, a storm, and two strangers who each say the other is lying.
Greyhallow, folk horror. An inherited orchard and three rules. Never break the second one.
The Woman in Grey, a supernatural thriller. A wedding photographer finds the same woman in the background of ten years of photos, a little closer every time.
Each book is told in short chapters, and the books get longer as you go.
A writer's life, on a laptop
Deadline, the writing app. Type the chapter on a clean page. Mistakes get a red zigzag like a word processor. Write at your own pace and get an honest grade at the end.
Mail. Briefs and verdicts from your editor, payments from clients.
Inkwell. Publish finished chapters for an advance today and royalties every night as readers find them.
Freelance. Short paid jobs for local clients: a retirement speech, a menu, a reply to a hotel review. These ones run on a timer.
Shop and Stats. Spend what you earn and track how fast you are getting.
Life between chapters
Writing takes energy. Buy a fridge and a sofa, grab a coffee, take a nap, sleep after 8 PM and collect your royalties in the morning. The weather changes through the day, the light fades at dusk, and the street outside slowly goes to sleep.
This is the free demo
The demo has the first book, Room Nine, up to Chapter Five, and six freelance jobs. Your demo save is kept separate from the full game.
